Welcome to "Pastor Pages". If you're coming to this page expecting to find "Staff" you're going to be surprised! Biblically, the Elders of the Church are the pastors. Modern Evangelical teaching has often gotten away from Biblical teaching on church polity by identifying a singular "pastor". Biblically, Pastors/Elders were always in a plurality, that is, more than one individual, in locally autonomous churches.
When the Apostle Paul said his farewells to the Ephesian Elders(plural), he addresses them in Acts 20 and designates two terms as functionary terms, particular to their calling. In verse 28 of the passage, Paul says, "Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers....". The Greek word for overseers(episcopos) is a word denoting the role of the Elders in overseeing the church's life and activities. Thus, Elders are given the commission to oversee all activities in the church and to ratify all interactions and teachings. In the same verse, verse 28, Paul tells them, "Be 'shepherds' of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood." Elders are to be 'shepherds' within the congregation. 'Shepherd' comes from the Greek word, "poimen", which has been designated in the English as "pastor". Elders in plurality are to be the 'pastors' or 'shepherds' over the flock of God!
It is for these reasons that we have a plurality of Elders in the church here at FCC, and 'calling Bible things by Bible names', we prefer to see our Elders as the true Shepherds of the church. On subsequent pages that you will see associated with each of our Shepherds, our men take their role seriously in shepherding the sheep! We invite you to find out more about our Pastors by going to their individual pages by clicking on their individual pictures. Find out more about these men of God and their work here at FCC!
